It looks like this primary is going to be of the NOTA variety. I think a clear NOTA option (none of the above) is an important aspect of electoral reform. While the duopoly likes to box voters in with lesser evilism, it is essential that voters have the NOTA option.
Even some of the PD endorsed candidates are less than worthy of support. I was pleasantly surprised to read that both SCFL and my union were more selective in their endorsements this time around. One of my pet peeves is unions endorsing any Democrat that can walk in a straight line. It looks like labor is finally waking up, and only endorsing candidates that support its values.
Mayor: NOTA! I will be writing in Bert Zipperer at the polls. Clearly both the right of center candidates wanting the job are out of touch with the values of Madison.
District 6 Alder: Marsha Rummel is one of the main reasons I will be voting in the primary. You can read her answers to the Green Party interview here.
School Board: Moss, Passman, and NOTA. Johnny Winston has lost face with labor and does not deserve any support. Upon asking him what his position was on getting rid of insurance options strongly desired by teachers, he refused to share his position because its a negotiation issue. Winston has been the central force trying to rid teachers of both the WPS and GHC options in health care even though it makes little sense financially. MTI has consistently polled members on this issue and the feedback has been strongly opposed to any change. This is why even though he was endorsed by Progressive Dane (why I don’t know) he did not receive an endorsement from either MTI or SCFL. Its beginning to look like Johnny Winston wants to take over the mantle of Teacher Enemy # 1.
Wisconsin Supreme Court: Linda Clifford. If Folkbum is willing to endorse her candidacy on his side bar it must mean she’s pretty good. She’s good enough that the right is running scared as Folkbum points out in a recent post.
