WEAC has historically served two roles a professional organization and a teacher’s union. It is in its professional capacity that the two days in October WEAC hosted a convention.

In short your children, I do pity them, will go to school two more days June in order for their lazy teacher to have “professional development” at the end of October. For some teachers, like Music and Gym, WEAC is their only opportunity at professional development. Many smaller districts heavily rely on WEAC for professional the development of their teachers. Yes, I know those evil unions using dues to fund teacher professional development.

MMSD, in keeping with the professional development theme, decided to have in depth discussions surrounding SIP Goals. But have no fear you would have been proud that teachers had this professional development with their coats on because schools are not heated when students are out the building.

But please quit being such an outright ass.

Proposals target rehiring of retired public employees

The tone of this piece is so anti worker its beyond me. Frankly, its a gross misunderstanding of how the retirement system works. This is a self supporting system funded by workers themselves either through payroll taxes or by the employer subtracted prior to a worker’s monetary benefits.

In short this would be no different than someone having a Roth IRA which matured at age 64 and someone was working more than 20 hours a week. Would we prohibit that worker from accessing money from the IRA just because he needed or wanted to work in his retirement.

Most of these workers come back out of a sense of obligation or service not an attempt to game the system. Channel 3000′s anti worker rhetoric is appalling.  When Channel 3000 uses Fox’s like rhetoric like some critics argue..it is difficult to know the basis for that criticism. Which critics, what evidence have they offered. If a post retirement worker does not pay into the system, will there annuity increase as a result of that employment. That is what Channel 3000 claims without any facts to back it up.

In the end this is workers money they paid in year after year that would mature at a particular age. Many workers work post retirement, should they defer their pensions until the state is satisfied with their retirement status. Should post retirement workers be denied Roth IRA’s and other retirement savings because they are working.

At the time I remember thinking the best way at getting at a “popular vote” would be via congressional districts. x number of electoral votes from this part of the state, and y from another would represent the popular will greatly than a plurality winner take all system. Think proportional representation in a Euro like system.

So, yes I fully support the Republican plan to have electoral votes by each congressional district. This get at the popular will of a state much more than the NPV. What i’d really like is IRV, but that’s another story.
