It is interesting that Democratic bloggers who are concerned with voter turnout first inclination is to shame the voters. Reform Dem ends with ‘shame on you if you didn’t vote today’.and Mobile’s Take scolds us on taking our right to vote for granted. What is interesting is the quickness to blame the voter rather than the system that discourages or limits their participation.
What if we could increase primary voter participation by over 300%. Do you think the Dems or the Cons would jump for it? That’s exactly what San Francisco did when it moved from a primary to an IRV based election system. They also saved millions of dollars that could be used for meaningful government purposes.
If you don’t want to fix our broken election system, fine, but please don’t blame the voters.
