Hugo, Our Economy Thanks you

 PARADE Magazine

To listen to Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez and the Bush Administration, you would think that our nations were mortal enemies. However, trade between the two actually has increased in each of the last four years. United States exports to Venezuela tripled between 2003 and 2006: Car sales to Venezuela rose from $9.3 million to $323.9 million, while exports of computers and computer accessories jumped more than 400%, and organic chemicals soared 800%. During the same period, United States imports from Venezuela more than doubled, fueled by our purchase of more than $27 billion of crude oil from the petroleum-rich country in 2006.
