April 1st I wrote a piece of satire in which I argued Hillary should go all the way. Later that month an Obamacon took it seriously and began quoting it on some kos sites. Well, it seems at least some Democrats took it to heart. A recent poll by Rasmussen has 30% of Democrats supporting Hillary as an Independent.
However, if Clinton does not win the Democratic Party nomination, 29% of Democrats say she should run an Independent campaign for the White House.
I think Hillary should pack up the Demopublican gig, and run a serious independent campaign for president. Its a fact that about half of her supporters will either stay home or vote McCain in the general. Casey says its nothing to worry about, but the Casey bump certainly did not help Obama much in Pennsylvania. If Hillary bows out or even goes on the ticket as VP, McCain will certainly be the next president of the United States.
The traditional coalitions that held the Duopoly together are falling apart. We saw this with Huckabee, McCain, and Paul in the Republican primary, and we are seeing it with Hillary and Obama in the Demopublican Primary.
An independent run might be the best of both worlds. It would give the Democrats two opportunities to win each state. In states where Obama is strong, like Nebraska, he will take the state. In other states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, and West Virgina where Hillary is stronger she will take the state. This just sounds like a win – win situation.
